I was commissioned to design this poster for Silver Wheel Cellar's summer solstice celebration event, Midsummer, which took place on a beautiful property in Beltsville, MD. The poster features Freya, a goddess in Norse mythology, who's associated with love, beauty, passion, fertility, magic and death. Her tears are said to turn to amber when they drop on trees. I wanted to capture these elements within the composition while paying tribute to a beloved member within our community of friends, Amber, who had recently passed away. The crow symbolizes the afterlife and transformation. Freya is also often depicted in a chariot that's pulled by cats, which for a cat lady like me, was a delight to illustrate. It was an honor to design this poster and vend my art at this beautiful event among other amazing artists and vendors. Below are some of my concept and process sketches in addition to the final poster design.
